SOMPost: January 2021

Evans Hall

Happy New Year! I hope it is a year full of hope, health and happiness for you.

At Yale SOM it is a time of new beginnings, many highlighted below. If your new beginning includes new recruiting, do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are happy to be a resource for you as you craft job descriptions, assess the recruiting calendar, or contemplate how to effectively connect with candidates in a virtual setting. For those of you who are wrapping up recruiting, we invite you to share your experiences with us from the new virtual recruiting world. Despite all the newness of this year, our goal remains the same: to help you build connections with students that lead to recruiting success for all.

What’s Happened:

Spring semester started this week

Monday, January 25 marked the start of the new semester at Yale SOM with many classes offered in a hybrid model. All recruiting remains virtual for the spring semester. If you are considering holding an event to connect with students, reach out to som.recruiting@yale.edu or your Employer Partnership Manager to determine how to navigate the academic calendar to optimize virtual recruiting to make the most of your efforts.

Welcome new students!

Yale SOM welcomes additional MAM and GBS degree students, as well as some MBA students who deferred the start of their second year until this spring semester. All these students will graduate in winter, 2022 and are actively recruiting. Reach out to your Employer Partnership Manager to learn more about how to market your opportunities to these stellar students.

What’s Happening:

Interviews are underway

After taking a break in late December, interviews started up again in early January for both full-time and internship roles. If you are interested in interviewing, it is not too late! Please reach out to your Employer Partnership Manager who can advise on how to market your organization and available positions, time applications and interviews, and organize interview logistics to best attract Yale SOM applicants.

Offer response deadline reminder

A friendly reminder of Yale SOM’s offer response deadlines, part of our recruiting policies.

  • Full time-offers should be left open for four weeks after offer date.
  • Internship offers must be left open until February 1, 2021 or for three weeks after the offer date, whichever is later.
  • If at any time a student feels that the amount of time granted is not sufficient, the Yale SOM CDO encourages the student to communicate to the organization how much time is required and why the time is needed.

How to keep your sense of purpose while working remotely

Yale SOM Professor Amy Wrzesniewski is an expert in how people find meaning in their jobs. Enjoy this short and insightful perspective on how to find meaning as we continue with remote work.
