Transformative leadership for public education

The Broad Center at Yale School of Management fosters the ideas, collaboration, and leadership to help all students—particularly those from underserved communities—to learn and thrive. Our work is bolstered and enriched by the Broad Network, a nationwide community of more than 900 dedicated and diverse leaders who are alumni of TBC programs.

Leadership Development and Support

Developing School System Leaders in Large Urban K-12 Public Schools

TBC at Yale SOM is home to a Master’s Degree in Public Education Management and the Fellowship for Public Education Leadership. These rigorous, tuition-free programs are driven by our commitment to equity and excellence and fit squarely with the distinctive mission of Yale SOM to educate leaders for business and society. TBC at SOM also fosters a nation-wide network of public education leaders who support one another’s professional growth and collectively drive systemic change.

Research

Generating Knowledge About Effective School System Leadership

TBC at SOM generates knowledge about what makes school systems effective and supports the application of that knowledge in policy and practice. Our unique approach fosters research that focuses on the school system as the unit of change, and on the management and leadership questions that matter for education policy and practice. We do this by supporting this particular lens of inquiry, and by connecting faculty researchers with education practitioners who help to guide key topics and questions, resulting in both high-quality academic research and concrete findings that can be implemented for the benefit of students and families.

Connection and Engagement

Building Community and Expanding Our Impact

Underlying and supporting these goals, TBC at SOM fosters engagement among Broad network members and other practitioners, policymakers, and researchers to share ideas, inform research, and build the connections that can result in tangible improvements for urban school systems and the communities they serve. This focus on connection and engagement is both an essential aspect of our first two strategic pillars, and a core aspect of how we ensure the impact of our work beyond our direct network.
