Event Dispatch: Saddling Up for the New School Year
After a day of Orientation activities on campus, incoming MBA student Elise Lehman ’28 joined her new classmates downtown for a group spin class.
In this series, students answer quickfire questions about events across campus.
Event: SOM Cycle at Wheelhouse
Host: Academic Affairs and Student Life
Location: Wheelhouse Cycling Studio
Date: August 26, 2026
What happened? It was a 50-minute, instructor-led spin workout at Wheelhouse, a local cycling studio.
Who showed up? Students! I saw the event on the Orientation website and signed up on Campus Groups. I picked up a few friends on the way—and then made some more there too!
Best moment? The best moment of the night was probably right when we were getting started. Some people had never done a spin class before and were stepping outside their comfort zones, which was really fun to see.
Who should go next time, and why? If you’re a little nervous or apprehensive about indoor cycling, you should go! It’s a really welcoming environment, it’s low stakes, and it’s just a fun way to move your body with new people.
How does this fit into your SOM experience? Being new to New Haven, it was great to find a spin studio and group fitness class through SOM. From a community standpoint, it was nice seeing my peers outside of the classroom—and typical Orientation programming—and getting to know them on a different level. I’m sure this’ll be an experience that we look back on fondly.
