SOMPost November: COVID survey, interviews, and global networking

Greetings! And an ask.

As we plan for the future, we are evaluating how our recruiting partners want to engage with students in spring semester – virtually or in-person, with any continuing COVID considerations, etc. Please answer our quick survey to help us guide students and our planning for Spring. We understand this will continue to evolve and really appreciate all the insights!

Then read on about our busy fall including the upcoming release of our Employment Report, a Global Graduate Business School Career Fair, and interviews and interview prep sessions. As always, reach out to your Employer Partnerships Managers or som.recruiting@yale.edu with any questions or comments.

WHAT'S HAPPENING

Planning for spring semester

We are gathering intel to better assess how employers would like to engage with students next semester. Please take three minutes to answer this short survey regarding your current and expected work-from-home/work-in-office plans and in-person engagement policies. We ask that surveys be completed by this Friday, November 12. Thank you.

Interview training is underway!

Students have been learning unique interview formats and practicing their interview skills through mock behavior interviews, mock technical interviews, and employer-hosted IPrepSOM sessions. If your organization is interested in hosting a session for students, reach out to your Employer Partnerships Manager or som.recruiting@yale.edu

Recruit students graduating this winter…

If you have immediate hire needs, consider the 30 Yale SOM students graduating this winter and seeking full-time roles – review their resumes here and to reach out directly to any student of interest. Additionally, you are encouraged to post your opportunities directly in 12Twenty (it’s free, but does require a free employer account) to market the opportunities to alumni and current EMBA students.

…or those seeking “winterships” over break or throughout the spring semester

Does your organization have a need for an asset management intern over winter break and/or during the spring semester? The Master’s in Asset Management students are seeking practical work experience during their academic studies. Review their resumes here and reach out to som.recruiting@yale.edu or your Employer Partnerships Manager with any questions.

Connect with students from 24 graduate business schools

On November 22, Yale SOM is co-hosting its fourth Global Graduate Business School Career Fair. Free for employers and students alike, employers from across industries and geographies are invited. Participating students will represent a variety of graduate business degrees and geographic and career desires.

CDO-coordinated internship interviews begin

November 29 kicks of the OCI (office-coordinated interview) season for internships during winter break, spring semester and summer 2022. If your organization is considering interns during these timeframes, reach out to your Employer Partnerships Manager or som.recruiting@yale.edu and we can help facilitate the logistics. Note that timing is critical, as application deadlines must fall at least two weeks prior to interviews to allow for the most seamless coordination.

BEYOND THE CDO

Campus life remains robust for students. Recently students enjoyed Friendsgiving, a recent tradition to bring students together socially as they share a US Thanksgiving-inspired meal. Affinity Week also just concluded with a calendar full of events and engagements sponsored by the many affinity and diversity focused student clubs. And the Yale-Harvard game is on the horizon, returning to the Yale Bowl this year! BOOLA BOOLA!

Meet the...students of Yale SOM

Last issue we introduced a student who interned “among the stars”, working this past summer at NASA. This issue introduces Ikya Kandula MBA ’22, who also summer interned among the stars, at Paramount Pictures.

Ikya Kandula ’22 spent her summer as an intern at Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles. This episode is part of a special mini-series of Career Conversations focused on MBA summer internships where we ask rising second-year MBA students to check in from their experiences, where they are applying the lessons of their first year at Yale SOM.  Career Conversations’ Podcast: Ikya Kandula MBA’22, Paramount Pictures Internship
