Internship Spotlight: Kavi Saxena ’26, Deloitte
Kavi Saxena ’26 found a strong network of SOM alums while interning at a major consulting firm.
Internship: Deloitte Consulting, McLean, Virginia (with trips to Chicago, New York City, Phoenix, and Dallas)
Hometown: Lakeland, Florida
Pronouns: he/him/his
The SOM class you’re using on the job: Competitor. Everything is about competing (and winning).
Go-to work lunch: A huge salad and chocolate chip cookie(s)
After-work routine: Making dinner when not on the road, catching up with friends and family, and responding to all the texts I didn’t see during work
Favorite thing about internship city: The food scene in Washington, D.C. is fantastic. I’ve also tried to find gems in each place I’ve visited while traveling for work.
My consulting internship built on my first-year SOM experience, with a huge focus on collaboration and community as well as intellectually rigorous problem-solving. My time on campus, where every day we’re surrounded by such a diverse and brilliant group of students, equipped me to step into consulting with a bit of comfort as I shifted from school into a more professional experience. SOM does a great job of preparing us for the workplace—and consulting specifically—through strong academics and a school culture that is demanding but also rewarding.
Over the course of the summer, I worked on a financial strategy case for a real estate client, thinking about savings opportunities. During the project, we connected with CFOs, heads of business units, and a wide range of subject-matter experts in service of building out a recommendation aligned to the client’s goals.
I came to SOM planning to use my MBA as a launchpad into the consulting world, and this summer was a great peek into what that would look like. I’m thankful for the summer experience I’ve had thus far—one where I’ve been able to foster a strong sense of community, meet people from across the globe, and build the intellectual endurance and strategic muscles to solve problems that impact the world.
Looking ahead, I think the internship allowed me to appreciate SOM even more, realizing the day-to-day MBA experience is not only a ton of fun but also equips us to be high performers in the workplace and contribute immediately to teams we join.
The strong SOM network carries on even outside of New Haven. In a 10-week internship, there’s a steep learning curve, but the SOM alums at Deloitte are an invaluable resource, providing counsel, guidance, and professional advice to support the success of the summer associates. The SOM group even suggested courses to take and trips to make during our second year, knowing that we had to plan for the coming semester while the internship was ongoing. The internal SOM group chats and wealth of knowledge that the community within the firm has built are incredible—giving us the same feeling as connecting with friends in Evans Hall.
