Dr. Cece Calhoun ’21 Named Assistant Director of Pozen-Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in Health Equity Leadership
Calhoun, the medical director of the Adult Sickle Cell Program at Yale’s Smilow Cancer Hospital, was part of the fellowship’s inaugural cohort.
Dr. Cece Calhoun, who graduated from Yale SOM’s MBA for Executives program in 2021 as a member of the inaugural cohort of the Pozen-Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in Health Equity Leadership, will help lead the fellowship as assistant director. She joins Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith, the fellowship’s director; Dr. Rosana Gonzalez-Colaso, associate director; and Dr. Howard Forman, senior advisor, on the leadership team.
An expert in the treatment of sickle cell disease, Calhoun trained as a pediatric hematologist as well as receiving a master’s degree in population health science. While serving as an attending physician at Washington University, she was one of the first recipients of the Pozen-Commonwealth Fund Fellowship. After completing her MBA at Yale SOM, she was appointed to the faculty of the Yale School of Medicine and named director of the Adult Sickle Cell Program at Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital.
“The Pozen-Commonwealth Fund Fellowship has been transformative in how I view the journey to achieving health justice,” Calhoun said. “It is a joy to support the leaders who join this fellowship as we journey together.”
The Pozen-Commonwealth Fund Fellowship was designed to give healthcare leaders the skills and knowledge to help tackle the enduring inequities in the U.S. healthcare system. The program includes 22 months of study in the MBA for Executives program as well as specialized study of disparities in healthcare.
“As a distinguished alumna of the fellowship, Dr. Calhoun has demonstrated a deep commitment to advancing health equity and empowering future leaders in the field,” Nunez-Smith said. “We are excited to have her bring her many talents to the leadership team.”
