Video: Students Hone Persuasion Skills for a Good Cause

Students in the Mastering Influence and Persuasion course practiced their technique at a phonathon for the Yale SOM Alumni Fund.

This week, students in Professor Zoë Chance’s Mastering Influence and Persuasion course got to try out their newly learned techniques on a friendly audience: Yale SOM alumni. Students made calls at a phonathon that raised money for the Yale SOM Alumni Fund.

Over the course of two evenings, the students gathered 112 pledges from alumni donors.

“Not only are we learning from that experience,” said Thomas Mehl ’17, “but we’re also as students able to give something back through this process. Many of us can only be here thanks to many of these alumni and the scholarships they’ve given us.”

Yale SOM has one of the highest rates of alumni participation in giving among top business schools. In the fiscal year that ended in June, 51.9% of alumni gave to the Alumni Fund, giving more than $3 million.
