New Haven, Conn.-January 30, 2004-
The Yale School of Management has appointed a roster of prominent executives to
serve as its new Board of Advisors. Linda A. Mason (SOM '80), Chairman and Founder of
Bright Horizons Family Solutions, and Fellow of the Yale Corporation, is Chair of the
40-member Board, which includes 21 Yale SOM and 14 Yale College alumni.
In an announcement to Yale SOM faculty, staff, and students, Dean Jeffrey E.
Garten said, "One of the most rewarding and positive experiences in my eight years
as Dean of the Yale School of Management has been the creation of the new Board of
Advisors. This distinguished group of leaders from the private, public, and non-profit
sectors all share at least one thing in common-their desire to see the School realize
its full potential in its mission 'to educate leaders for business and society'.
Additionally, I am pleased that the majority of the membership consists of alumni of
the School, who are committed to securing an exceptional learning environment for
future generations of students."
The new Board is charged with two primary responsibilities. First, it will help
faculty and staff to develop and refine the vision and strategic plans of Yale SOM in its
efforts to become recognized among the highest tier of business schools in the world,
while remaining true to its founding principles. Second, it will provide-and help raise
from others-the resources necessary to achieve the School's goals.
SOM faculty and students will be active participants in the day of events planned
around the inaugural meeting of the new Board on February 3. According to Dean Garten, the
agenda of the first meeting will devote much time to reconfirming the mission of the School,
and identifying and discussing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Discussion
topics will include the future scope and scale of the School, its current facilities,
and opportunities to develop areas of excellence in teaching, research, and outreach.
