SOMPost: December 2020

News for job posters.

Greetings!

I hope this December finds you, your family and your colleagues well. As we close 2020, I want to extend my gratitude for making this recruiting season a success. Throughout this season, I have learned much about resiliency, turning chaos into opportunity, and about the goodwill and generous spirit of people. I look forward to working with you to continue the positive momentum into what I truly hope will be the happiest of new years!

As always, below is a recap of the past month and a look forward to 2021. Reach out if you have any questions, comments or ideas – we welcome them all!

Bring on 2021!

Deputy Director, Career Development Office

Connecting with the Yale SOM CDO in December

If you have any need to connect with the Yale SOM CDO, please reach out before Friday, December 18, 2020. The following Monday and Tuesday we will be lightly staffed, and then the entire Yale University fully closes Wednesday, December 23, 2020 through Sunday, January 3, 2021. The Yale SOM CDO will re-open Monday, January 4, 2021, and we look forward to re-connecting then.

What’s Happened:

Summer internship interviews have begun!

This year, Yale SOM introduced an earlier timeframe to schedule Yale SOM-facilitated internship interviews. We take a break from interviewing mid-December for finals and a much needed holiday respite. Yale SOM-facilitated interviews re-commence January 5, 2021 for internships and January 25, 2021 for full-time roles. Please reach out to som.recruiting@yale.edu or your Employer Partnership Manager if you have questions or would like to schedule interviews.

Global MBA Career Fair was a world-wide success!

On November 23, 918 students from 18 business schools and 60 employers met during one of two free sessions to network and discuss over 100 job opportunities. We are planning to repeat this success in spring 2021 and will announce details via SOMPost and a dedicated Save The Date communication.

What’s Happening:

Employment Report released

Yale SOM recently released its employment report, including full-time employer data from the graduating MBA Class of 2020 and internship data for the MBA Class of 2021.

Interview prep is welcomed!

Recruiters are finding creative ways to help students prepare for interviews. Some are hosting workshops, others are conducting 1:1 mock interviews, and still others are sharing details of the interview process, success criteria, and preparation materials via email. All such information is welcomed by students and goes a long way toward building rapport with candidates before the interviews even begin. Reach out to som.recruiting@yale.edu or your Employer Partnership Manager if you have such information to share with students or want to brainstorm ideas on how to build interview prep into your recruiting plans.

What’s Next?

Looking to spring semester

As shared last month, Yale SOM has confirmed the spring academic calendar, and it aligns closely with the planning calendar the CDO has been using.

The new year brings new students to Yale SOM

Yale SOM facilitated interviews will begin Tuesday, January 5 for internships and Monday January 25 for full-time roles. If you are interested in scheduling Yale SOM facilitated interviews, please reach out to som.recruiting@yale.edu or your Employer Partnership Manager
