Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, Yale SOM’s senior associate dean for leadership studies and the Lester Crown Professor in the Practice of Management, will be honored at the 2023 Board Leadership Awards, presented by Corporate Board Member magazine in partnership with AlixPartners. Sonnenfeld will receive the Greatest Impact on Corporate Boards award at the 19th annual Boardroom Summit and Peer Exchange on September 13 in New York City.

The award recognizes Sonnenfeld’s “relentless efforts in documenting and advocating for global companies to withdraw from Russia following the invasion of Ukraine,” Corporate Board Member said in an announcement. “Sonnenfeld’s impactful work has played a crucial role in shaping ethical business practices and promoting corporate governance principles on a global scale.”

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2024, Sonnenfeld and his team have been maintaining the widely discussed “Yale list,” tracking companies that did and did not end their business in Russia. Sonnenfeld has also frequently appeared in the media, met with policymakers, and published research discussing the importance of isolating Russia and examining the state of the Russian economy.

“We are delighted to recognize these exceptional individuals and organizations who have displayed extraordinary leadership and made significant contributions to the field of corporate governance,” said Jamie Tassa, publisher of Corporate Board Member. “Their vision, courage and unwavering commitment to excellence serve as a powerful inspiration to boards and directors worldwide.”
