Biography
Ng Kok Song is Advisor and Chair of Global Investments at GIC Private Limited (GIC). He retired as GIC’s Chief Investment Officer on 1 Feb 2013 after a 42‐year career in the investment management of Singapore’s foreign reserves. The Government of Singapore awarded him the Meritorious Service Award in 2012. As Advisor to GIC, Mr Ng serves on the Investment Strategies Committee, the Group Executive Committee, and GIC’s International Advisory Board chaired by former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.
Before joining GIC in 1986, Mr Ng was at the Ministry of Finance (1970‐71) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) (1972‐1986). From 1983 to 1987, he was the founding Chairman of the Singapore International Monetary Exchange (SIMEX), now incorporated into the Singapore Exchange, where he has been a Board Director since September 2013.
He has been the founder Chairman of the Wealth Management Institute since 2003. He also serves on the Singapore Capital Markets Committee of MAS, and the CFA Institute’s Advisory Council for the “Future of Finance”.
Mr Ng has been a member of the Strategic Committee of Agency France Tresor since 2001. The Government of France conferred on him the award of “La Croix de Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur” in 2004. He is currently on the Board of Directors of Makena Capital, a USA based investment management company; serving long term institutional investors.
Mr Ng graduated in Physics from the University of Singapore (1970) and in Management from Stanford University, USA (1980).
