What is your advice for a prospective SOMer?
"Start Networking Today." My only advice to a prospective SOMer is to wet their feet and experience networking before B School. You'll network with industry leaders, alums, and most importantly, your peers at SOM almost everyday. If you understand how to talk to people with a structure in your mind (i.e. not reading off a script but making sure your objective is met and your information is out there), then you have already done a lot. The only way to really learn this skill is to put your story out there in front of multiple people, multiple times! I've seen gradual improvement in my interviews with time because I felt more confident in speaking and gauging what appears interesting to the other person while staying on the relevant topic. This would also put you in the habit of doing your research before a talk or an interview!
