What is your advice for a prospective SOMer?
Before you even arrive on campus, take some quiet time to reflect on what truly matters to you - your values, your passions, and your goals. Whether you have a clear vision or you’re still exploring, this self-awareness will be your compass throughout your MBA journey at Yale SOM. With so many opportunities available, knowing your “why” helps you make choices that align with your personal and professional growth.
Once you’re here, be intentional with your time - especially during your first semester. Yale SOM offers an incredible array of clubs, events, and social activities, and it’s tempting to say yes to everything. But instead of spreading yourself too thin, focus on the experiences that resonate most with your goals and values.
Prioritizing quality over quantity will help you build deeper connections and develop meaningful skills.
Do your research before you arrive. Whether you’re aiming for consulting, tech, real estate, or any other field, having a solid understanding of your target industries will give you a head start. It’ll boost your confidence and help you engage more meaningfully with recruiters, classmates, and professors.
And one last thing-embrace the journey with an open mind. Sometimes the most rewarding opportunities come from unexpected places. Stay curious, be adaptable, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. That’s where real growth happens.
Being intentional, prepared, and connected will not only help you navigate SOM but also make your time here truly transformative.
