Edward H. Kaplan, the William N. and Marie A. Beach Professor of Operations Research, professor of public health, and professor of engineering, has been named a distinguished fellow of the Management and Service Operation Management Society of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).

Kaplan will deliver a fellow’s talk titled “Adventures in Policy Modeling” at the INFORMS annual conference in November in Phoenix, Arizona.

According to INFORMS, the Distinguished Fellow Award “recognizes outstanding research and scholarship in operations management. Election as an MSOM Fellow should be considered a rare distinction, comparable with membership in Omega Rho.”

Kaplan’s current research focuses on the application of operations research to problems in counterterrorism and homeland security. He  served as president-elect of IMFORMS in 2015, president in 2016, and past-president in 2017.
