Tell us about your International Experience trip. Where did you go? What was your favorite part?
I visited Shanghai and Beijing, China for my International Experience (IE). While the Great Wall was magnificent, what truly made my trip memorable was exploring Beijing on my own one evening. I was impressed by the remarkable sense of safety and cleanliness I felt while walking through this city of 20 million people.
My interactions with local shopkeepers were equally noteworthy. When I encountered payment issues while purchasing suits, the staff were incredibly gracious - even updating their system overnight and welcoming me back with coffee and cake the next day. These personal connections taught me more about Chinese culture and hospitality than any scheduled visit or tour could have. When I mentioned Yale SOM, I was touched by the immediate respect and recognition the school commanded internationally. This experience exemplified the invaluable cultural insights that international opportunities outside the classroom can provide.
