Dr. Michael Apkon ’02 Named CEO of Tufts Medical Center
Apkon previously held positions as CEO of Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children, chief medical officer for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and executive director of Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Michael Apkon ’02 has been appointed chief executive officer of Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children by the medical center’s board of trustees following an international search. Apkon will assume the position this fall.
Apkon most recently served as president and CEO for the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, beginning in 2014. Prior to that he held positions as chief medical officer of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and as executive director of Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.
While at the Hospital for Sick Children, Apkon is credited with transforming “a top hospital into an anchor for a top health system, a novel approach in Canadian healthcare,” said Norm Deschene, CEO of Tufts Medical Center’s parent organization, Wellforce, in a press release.
