From the Director of Admissions: Is a Round 3 Application Right for You?

Joanne Legler discusses the advantages of applying now and dispels some myths about Round 3 applications.

The admissions team is certainly keeping busy these days! We’re excited to be working with those recently admitted and enrolled from our first two application rounds, and looking forward to meeting even more potential members of the Class of 2023 during our Round 3 application process (the deadline is March 29, 2021).

Prospective students often ask our team if it makes sense to apply in Round 3. The short answer is—of course! On a very basic level, if you have made the commitment to yourself that this is your year to begin your EMBA, Round 3 is your final opportunity to do so at Yale SOM. As quickly as you may have to make it happen if you’re just getting started, you also don’t want to look back and wish you were already in school later this year. If you feel you’ve had the time to reflect on your goals and intentions for business school, you have a plan to take a standardized test (or better yet, you already have a score to submit), and you’re ready to start the program a few short months after you receive your decision, then a Round 3 submission might make sense for you.

In addition, there is really no harm in applying in Round 3 if you are considering doing so. If you apply and your decision is not favorable, you can reapply next year, and if we’re able to, we can offer feedback on how you can improve your profile for a future application. We welcome reapplicants and give those files every consideration in our holistic evaluation process.

If you didn’t have a chance to attend our Application Tips webinar live earlier this month, you can view the recording below. It’s a great discussion with the Admissions team on how to present your strongest application for our final Round 3 deadline of March 29, 2021. If you are working on your application as you read this, I wish you the best as you power toward the finish line. As always, you can contact us at emba.admissions@yale.edu with any questions.
