A Message from the Director of Admissions: What Happens After You Hit ‘Submit’
Keith Gallinelli offers a behind-the-scenes peek at the MBA for Executives admissions process.
It’s been wonderful to engage with so many of you through our on-campus and virtual information sessions and events, and to meet you in your towns and cities. My admissions team and I have had the pleasure of communicating with many more of you on the phone or via email. I hope that you have found these interactions helpful and that you’re now considering applying for a spot in the Class of 2028—or have already submitted an application in Round 1. If you missed the deadline this time around, don’t worry; we have two more application rounds and more opportunities to connect in the near future. Visit our events page for upcoming events.
If you’ve made it even partway through the application, allow me to congratulate you! The application process itself can be daunting. Starting it—and hopefully finishing it—is no small feat.
You may be curious about what happens after you hit the “submit” button. This part of the process might feel a little stressful and mysterious, but I hope the information below will help ease your anxiety about what’s coming next.
While you may not hear much from us immediately after submitting your application, please know that the admissions committee quickly begins reading each application carefully and thoroughly, as well as reviewing responses to the optional video response questions. We then meet as a team to make decisions about whom to interview and, ultimately, whom to admit to the Class of 2028.
If you are invited to interview, you will come to campus to meet with the admissions staff and MBA for Executives alumni for individual interviews as well as a group discussion. You’ll also have the opportunity to sit in on a live class during the interview day. The application round timeline is a helpful reference for scheduling potential interview dates on your calendar.
Once you schedule your interview, an employer approval form will be sent to the individual you identified in your application within 48 hours. Alongside the approval form, we also include the Class of 2028 Academic Calendar, highlighting residency weeks, class weekends, and other important dates. It’s a good idea to share this calendar with all your stakeholders, both personal and professional.
Following the interview days, the admissions committee will reconvene and release final decisions for that round. While each student admitted must complete an interview, not receiving an invitation to interview immediately after a round deadline does not necessarily mean you won’t eventually be interviewed—and perhaps admitted—at some point during the application season.
Finally, if you haven’t yet applied to the Yale MBA for Executives program and would like feedback on your candidacy, I encourage you to submit your resume or LinkedIn profile for pre-assessment. A member of our admissions team will personally review your profile and offer guidance on the next steps.
I hope that this peek into our process has been helpful. As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
