Tell us about your International Experience trip. Where did you go? What was your favorite part?
I visited Costa Rica for my International Experience program. Costa Rica is renowned for its stable political situation, high economic development, diverse ecosystems, and commitment to environmental conservation. Additionally, it is a unique country that operates without a military and invests heavily in public healthcare and education, running entirely on renewable energy. During this trip, we visited the capital, San José, Catamaran, and Guanacaste, which allowed me to deeply engage with Costa Rica’s business and natural environments, providing insights beyond the typical tourist experience. We visited various companies, including the central bank, automotive, textile, and rocket industries. Among many fulfilling experiences, my favorite was visiting the Doka Estate coffee plantation. During this visit, I was able to observe the entire production process, from the coffee beans to extraction, and deeply learn about the economics of coffee production in Costa Rica. Additionally, visiting the Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center and observing the rich natural biodiversity throughout the trip was fascinating. Snorkeling and enjoying the beach with classmates are also cherished memories. The trip to Costa Rica was educational and profoundly impactful, making it an incredibly fulfilling experience. It is undoubtedly a highlight of my first year at Yale SOM.
