What surprised you the most about being an MBA student?
Honestly, how much of the experience happens outside the classroom. I came in expecting the academics, the recruiting grind, and the case competitions. All of that is real. What I didn't expect was how much I'd grow from the people around me: late-night prep sessions with classmates who had no reason to help but did anyway, partner dinners that felt like family, band practices and tennis matches that became the highlights of my week.
The other surprise has been how accessible everyone is, faculty included. I've had professors walk me through their research, share industry contacts, and genuinely invest in where I'm headed next. You hear "community" thrown around on every MBA tour, but at SOM it actually shows up in how people treat each other. That's the part I wish I'd known sooner.
