What was your favorite memory from your first year?
It’s hard to choose a single favorite memory because my first year has been full of meaningful moments, but one highlight that stands out is Thanksgiving. A group of AHLAS 1Y students organized a trip to rent a cabin in the woods, and we spent the holiday together like a true family. In many of our home countries, Thanksgiving isn’t something we traditionally celebrate, but being able to experience it together made it incredibly special. We spent time hiking, cooking meals as a group, and just enjoying each other’s company—whether around the table or relaxing at the house. What made it so memorable wasn’t just the setting, but the sense of connection. It was one of those moments where you realize how quickly this community becomes something deeper. The friendships I’ve built and the sense of belonging I’ve found here are things I didn’t fully expect, and they’ve been one of the most valuable parts of my experience at Yale.
