Tell us about your International Experience trip. Where did you go? What was your favorite part?
I traveled to Japan for my International Experience trip, and one of my favorite parts was meeting with companies and learning about how they approach stakeholder relationships. It was especially interesting to see how much this differs from the more shareholder-focused approach in the U.S. I was also struck by how long many of these companies have been around, and how they have continued to innovate in order to stay relevant over time. This was reinforced during our visit to an incubator, where we saw how Japan is actively investing in and supporting its startup ecosystem.
Beyond the company visits, there were also some unforgettable cultural experiences. We went Mario go-karting, had a meditation session with our professor's sensei, visited an onsen, and even ate a black egg that is said to add seven years to your life.
Overall, the trip was a great balance of learning and cultural immersion, and it gave me a new perspective on both business and innovation in a global context.
