What surprised you the most about being an MBA student?
Before arriving at Yale School of Management, I kept hearing that every MBA program claimed to have the “best community.” When SOM students said the same, I was skeptical since it felt more like a marketing phrase all schools defaulted to. What surprised me most, though, is how true to SOM it turned out to be.
Coming from a nontraditional background in nonprofit social services and direct patient care in healthcare, I initially wondered how I would fit in among classmates with more traditional pre-MBA paths. But once I stepped on campus, began taking classes, and started to meet my classmates, that concern quickly faded. SOM brings together people from a wide range of professional, cultural, and personal backgrounds, and those differences are not just acknowledged but genuinely valued.
I have built an incredible group of friends here, people I know will remain part of my life well beyond the MBA, as well as future colleagues and peers. The strength of the SOM community is not just something people talk about; it is something I have experienced every day.
