Profs. Joyee Deb and Lesley Meng Win 2021 Faculty Teaching Awards
Deb is the winner of the award for core curriculum teaching, and Meng is the winner of the award for elective teaching
Joyee Deb, associate professor of economics, and Lesley Meng, assistant professor of operations management, are the winners of the 2021 Yale School of Management Faculty Teaching Excellence Awards.
The annual awards recognize outstanding teaching. First-year MBA students elect the winner of the award for core curriculum teaching, won by Deb. Second-year MBA students and Master of Advanced Management students vote for the award for elective teaching, won by Meng.
Both Deb and Meng thanked their students for making the difficult academic year of 2020-21 a success at Yale SOM.
“I really want to applaud the students for their resilience in such an extraordinary year,” Deb said. “It is your enthusiasm, curiosity, and engagement, despite difficult circumstances, that kept me going. I am also grateful to my fantastic colleagues who have taught me a lot over the years.”
Meng said she was “incredibly grateful” for this recognition—and for her students.
“The classroom environment would not have been as fun without each and every one of them contributing their own unique stories, thoughts, curiosity, and laughter,” Meng said. “I am honored to have had the opportunity to teach each and every one of them, and I thank them deeply for their kindness and patience as we navigated this past year together.”
