[Yale SOM Exchange] Is Stakeholder Capitalism the Future?

Friday, Apr 19 2024 at 12:00 - 1:00 pm EDT

Is a business’s sole responsibility, as Milton Friedman famously put it, to maximize profits? Or should businesses, including entrepreneurial ventures, pursue multiple objectives to satisfy their stakeholders, including customers, employees, and local communities? Join us for a conversation about these issues with: Jon Iwata, practice leader at Yale SOM’s Program on Stakeholder Innovation and Management (Y-SIM); Ted Snyder, co-faculty leader of Y-SIM and William S. Beinecke Professor of Economics and Management; and Nell Diamond ’15, founder and chief executive officer of Hill House Home.

Optional Pre-Reading:
Earlier this year, Professor Snyder prepared an eight-page brief on our topic titled, “Stakeholder Capitalism and Shareholder Capitalism: Commonalities and Differences.” Attendees are invited to explore this optional, pre-webinar reading to take a look at some of the ideas that will be explored during our webinar.
