At Yale SOM, April Is the Busiest Month
Alice Yuan ’22 and Mihir Bhagat ’22 reflect on the event-filled month, affectionately designated “April Foolery.”
April is a busy month for our MBA students—it’s the last full month of classes before the end of the year. On top of that, students pack the calendar with end-of-year celebrations. Some of these events are historic traditions like the Internship Fund Auction. Some are professionally focused, like our Healthcare Conference. And the rest are opportunities to relax and connect with friends. There is so much going on that our students have affectionately designated the month “April Foolery.”
As Student Life chair, it is my responsibility to plan April Foolery with all of the clubs at SOM. This year, we planned three amazing Closing Bells during Foolery: candle-making with WIM, escape rooms with Tech Club, and a sustainable skincare line demo with Business & Environment. It’s been a fun and creative challenge to brainstorm events that are inclusive and engaging in the virtual environment, and I’m so grateful for all of our club leaders who have helped lead the way to build up our community through these Closing Bells.

One of the best Yale SOM traditions is the Internship Fund, which raises money for our classmates who are spending their summer working for non-profits, government roles, etc. The Internship Fund is the epitome of the school’s mission of building leaders for both business and society. I had a blast MCing the live auction along with my friends Joel Puritz, Grania VanHerwarde, and Madeline Carey. The auction was yet another example of how talented and diverse our school is. While I was using my pre-SOM experience as a sports anchor to help provide a fun event, it was awesome to see students and faculty donate experiences ranging from five-course dinners to ski trips. For a virtual Zoom event on a Friday night, we had a tremendous turnout, which just goes to show the strong community SOM has.
