Master’s in Asset Management
I’ve always believed in the power of connecting data-based evidence to investment decisions. Before coming to Yale SOM, I studied finance at the University of Toronto. My undergraduate program focused on traditional methods and provided a good introduction to leading theories and fundamental analysis. During my time there, I started a self-managed student fund consisting of 25 students conducting equity and macro research. But I also recognized that the investment management industry is becoming more and more data-dependent. I wanted to acquire more quantitative skills that would help me become a better, more informed investor. The Asset Management program at SOM lets me blend the qualitative and the quantitative.

The Asset Management curriculum puts a heavy emphasis on using data science to analyze investment opportunities. Practical coding problem sets have enabled me to understand how models work and interpret actionable takeaways for investors. Regardless of your personal investment philosophy, the insights are valuable. For example, studies on momentum behaviors in the equities market will help both fundamental and quantitative investors make better decisions.
My classmates are some of the brightest people I know. We have different backgrounds but similar career goals, so we can help each other succeed while learning from each other’s diverse pre-SOM experiences. Coming from a large undergraduate program, I’ve enjoyed being part of a tight-knit community with a strong sense of camaraderie.
