Professor Nakhmurina is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Yale School of Management and holds a secondary appointment as an Associate Professor of the Environment at the Yale School of the Environment.
She studies the information environment of U.S. municipalities, with a focus on financial reporting transparency. Her research explores two interconnected topics: the stewardship and information roles of municipal disclosures. Professor Nakhmurina is particularly interested in examining cities’ disclosures to understand their decisions concerning climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Her research has been published in prestigious journals, including Science, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, and Nature Communications Earth & Environment.
Nakhmurina is an Affiliate Fellow of the Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and was a Junior Fellow of the Stigler Center during 2018-2021.
She holds a PhD from the University of Chicago, an MA in Economics from the New Economic School, and an MS in Applied Mathematics and Physics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.
