Global Network for Advanced Management
Yale is actively engaged with the Global Network for Advanced Management, which fosters substantive ties among the world’s leading business schools. Comprised of over 30 schools across six continents, the Network will give you access to member schools with diverse regions, countries, cultures, and economies in different phases of development, as well as programming and resources designed to deepen your understanding of the global context in which you operate.
Global Network Weeks
In June of your first year, you will travel to another Global Network school and join other Executive MBA students from around the globe to attend classes, collaborate on team projects, tour local businesses, and hear from visiting business leaders.
You’ll have a range of choices. Recent Global Network Weeks have included trips to Mexico, China, Germany, Brazil, India, the Philippines, and other countries.
Yale SOM trains its students to lead for business and society. In our coursework, we learn to treat the two concepts as one system, rather than a company on one side and everyone it touches on the other. For five days in June, I watched that idea play out on a boat on the Tapajós and Arapiuns rivers in Brazil alongside students from eight business schools. With no Wi-Fi or cell signal, we slept in hammocks and bathed in the river.
Global Network Courses
These are optional for-credit courses offered virtually by a Global Network for Advanced Management member school and open to students from throughout the network. The courses connect students through an online platform and video conferencing for lectures and discussions. As part of the courses, groups of students from multiple member schools collaborate virtually on substantial team projects, developing teamwork skills and cross-cultural perspectives.
GNW brought together more than 50 students from the top management schools worldwide, including nine Yale EMBA students, for a course called Dynamic China: Innovating in a Global Economy. A few takeaways stood out to me. I learned why so many Western firms stumble in China, where success depends on cultural fluency, not foreign models.
