Lauren Caplan

Lecturer in the Practice of Management

Lauren has worked on cross-sector solutions to the most pressing challenges for the past 20 years. She has advised a wide range of organizations including endowments and foundations; private investment funds; early-stage companies; and public-private partnerships. Lauren Caplan is the Managing Director & Head of Democracy-Aligned Investing at the Leadership Now Project. Previously, Lauren was Associate General Counsel in the Yale Investments Office, where she worked on private equity, natural resources and real estate investments as well as ethical investing and DEI efforts. Prior to that, she spent eight years with Commonfund, an investment manager with over $25 billion in assets under management, where she worked to integrate ESG into the investment process and served as a member of the PRI Private Equity Working Group and the SASB Advisory Council.

Lauren writes and speaks about responsible investing, the intersection of corporate social responsibility and capital markets, and the relationship between regulation and emerging strategies in asset management.

Prior to her legal career, Lauren worked in the U.S. Senate and was director of a nonprofit organization. She holds a JD from The Georgetown University Law Center and an AB in Government from Harvard University.
