Why was I placed on the waitlist?
Candidates are waitlisted for different reasons, and a waitlist decision indicates that the Admissions Committee would like to consider your application further as the admissions cycle continues. We provide all waitlisted candidates with individualized feedback on their application, including guidance on how to strengthen your candidacy and share updates. In some cases, the best course of action may simply be to remain patient as we continue to monitor the class.
Can I receive feedback on my application? If so, by when?
Yes, we provide feedback via email to all waitlisted applicants within three weeks of receiving a waitlist decision.
Can I meet or talk on the phone with a member of the Admissions Committee?
We are unable to conduct individual meetings with waitlisted candidates; the best source of information on your waitlist status will be the email you receive with individualized feedback. If you have specific questions regarding the feedback you received, you may contact assetmgmt.admissions@yale.edu. Otherwise, if there are materials updates to your application, you can submit them through the Waitlist Update Form on your status page.
Can I submit additional materials? If so, to whom?
We recognize that your circumstances may continue to evolve while you are on the waitlist. If you have material updates to your application such as new test scores, a change in employment, or recently completed graded coursework, please upload them directly through the Waitlist Update Form on your status page. We do not accept individual applicant updates via the waitlist email inbox; any updates provided to the inbox will not be included in your admissions file.
Additional letters of support are entirely optional and not expected. If someone independently wishes to submit a letter on your behalf, they may send it to assetmgmt.admissions@yale.edu.
What are my chances of being accepted off the waitlist?
We monitor our enrollment throughout the admission season, and make additional offers as space becomes available. Waitlist movement varies from year to year, so it is difficult to make predictions as to how many candidates we will admit from the waitlist in a given year. However, we look favorably upon waitlisted candidates and appreciate your patience and continued engagement with our office.
When will the Committee review the waitlist?
The Committee reviews the waitlist on an ongoing basis. If you are facing an external deadline that would prevent you from continuing to be considered, you may notify us. However, even in such cases, we cannot guarantee that the committee will be able to issue an updated decision at that time.
I haven’t been interviewed yet. Is that unusual?
Since we have limited interview appointments, it is not uncommon to be placed on the waitlist before being interviewed. In these cases, the Committee will continue to consider you for an invitation to interview.
When will I receive an update to my status?
Waitlist candidates may receive an update to their status at any time.
