Global Studies Requirement

Yale’s MBA Program requires students to gain a meaningful exposure to complex issues facing business and society in different regions of the world. Prior to graduating, students are required to participate in at least one of the following:

Global Studies Reimbursement

First-year MBA students receive 10 days of funding in their Global Studies Account (GSA). These amounts last the entirety of the degree program and are not replenished.

Global Studies Requirement (GSR) options and the corresponding GSA amounts are outlined below:

  • IE Trip: 10 days, GSE India: 10 days
  • International Exchange Program: 10 days
  • Spring GSE: 5 days, Global Network Week: 5 days
  • Small Network Online Course: 0 days

For Global Network Weeks and the International Exchange Program:

Funding amounts are destination-specific and will be reimbursed at 50% of lodging and meal expenses based on the U.S. Department of State of the travel dates for the host university's city. For instance, if the per diem rate for lodging and meals in Madrid is $427, a student attending a 5-day Global Network Week at the IE Business School would be eligible for $1,067.50 in funding(=5*0.5*427).

For International Experience and Global Social Entrepreneurship courses:

Yale SOM provides students with double-occupancy accommodation and roughly half the meals during the trip. Students are responsible for paying their own expenses for travel to the destination.
