[VIRTUAL] Old World & New World Cabernet Sauvignon Alumni Wine Tasting
Wednesday, Mar 10 2021 at 8:00 - 9:00 pm EST
In this wine tasting, we'll be comparing and contrasting Old World and New World Cabernet Sauvignon (or a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend) with sommelier Caroline Williams from Curated Cellar. With that in mind, the goal is to select wines that are typical of the region from which they come, i.e. please avoid a "Bordeaux style" wine from Napa. We will not be shipping out wine for this event, instead a list of suggested wines is available below. We are also trying to keep the price point below $60 for two bottles. If you come across half bottles, consider yourself lucky!
In addition, while it's interesting to compare the same vintages, it is not essential in this instance. Just try to keep the wines within the same decade, so that varying levels of maturity don't disguise the overall characteristics of each wine.
With that in mind, please purchase, open, and pour before we begin at 8:00pm. Attendees should come prepared with:
one bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon from California, Chile, Argentina, or Australia
and
one bottle of Left Bank Bordeaux (which will have a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon than the Right Bank). Value tip: look for Cru Bourgeois wines, which are evaluated annually and are often a good value.
Some specific examples of each are below. If you have questions about whether a specific wine is appropriate, do not hesitate to reach out directly to Caroline directly at caroline@cwsomm.com – she would be happy to make further recommendations. We are looking forward to tasting and discussing the "king" of grape varietals with everyone!
