This session will examine leadership approaches and human resource practices that best support mission-driven organizations. We will summarize some of the evidence on how having a transcendent mission benefits organizations and their employees. We will also examine one mission-driven enterprise, The Herman Miller Company, in some detail, focusing on how it leverages and instantiates its mission in order to achieve competitive advantage in a challenging and fiercely competitive industry.The session will conclude by discussing some implications for leading and managing in a mission-driven context.
