NYC Master Class: Management Beyond the Market

We invite Yale SOM alumni to join Senior Associate Dean and Senior Lecturer in Global Business and Politics, David Bach, who will deliver a 90-minute master class drawn from his popular core MBA ‘State & Society’ course. Join a case-based discussion about how to create value beyond the market by effectively managing relations with a diverse set of market- and nonmarket stakeholders. The audience will include high potential MBA and EMBA candidates. The purpose of the event will be for the candidates to experience the unique SOM learning environment, while showcasing the caliber and commitment of our alumni and friends.  We expect a highly interactive discussion. Short pre-work readings will be distributed in advance of the event.

David’s research focuses on business-government relations, nonmarket strategy, and market regulation in a globalizing world economy, with particular emphasis on the regulation of financial markets. Guests will also have an opportunity to connect with admissions representatives, alumni and current students.

  • David Bach

    Senior Associate Dean and Senior Lecturer in Global Business and Politics

    An expert in political economy, his research and teaching focus on business-government relations, nonmarket strategy, and global market regulation. At Yale SOM, he teaches a core MBA course on State & Society as well as an elective course on Nonmarket Strategy. As a member of Yale SOM’s senior leadership team, Dean Bach directs the school’s Executive MBA and the newly established Master in Advanced Management; spearheads engagement with the 28-school strong Global Network for Advanced Management; catalyzes curricular innovation in the area of global business; guides online education initiatives; and overseas Yale Center Beijing. He serves on two university advisory committees: the Provost’s International Advisory Committee and the Provost’s Committee on Online Education. A winner of multiple teaching awards, Bach was named one of “40 under 40” business school professors by Poets & Quants, one of the “Top 50 business school professors on twitter”, and has twice given a GMAC keynote address on innovation in management education. Bach enjoys working with the media and is frequently quoted on topics including the international economy, financial markets, the European Union, business-government relations, and innovation in management education in leading international news outlets such as the Financial Times, The Economist, New York Times, L.A. Times, BBC, Reuters, Times of India, and South China Morning Post. A native of Germany, he received his PhD and MA in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and holds a BA magna cum laude in Political Science and International Studies from Yale University.
