Book Discussion with Amy Whitaker ‘01, Museum Legs, New York Midtown, NY
Thursday, May 6 2010 at 10:30 pm - Friday, May 7 2010 at 12:30 am EDT
PLEASE NOTE VENUE CHANGE - Now meeting at Wells Fargo Advisors, (Wachovia Securities), 375 Park Avenue (between 52nd & 53rd Streets). As Thomas Friedman and the Kauffman Foundation recently reported, "Between 1980 and 2005, virtually all net new jobs created in the U.S. were created by firms that were five years old or less." As innovation and entrepreneurship bring hopefulness to a recovering economy, how can we look at creativity, inside and outside of the arts? In her funny and engaging collection of essays, Museum Legs, Amy Whitaker tackles these questions in relation to the public life of art and the creative life of museums. As we talk about the creative history of museums and whether they are currently more like libraries or theme parks, we'll engage in the cross-sector questions at the heart of the SOM ethos -- and send you on your way with new frameworks as you visit the Picasso show or the Costume Institute or other summer art plans. Cost: $20.00/person, includes a copy of Museum Legs, beverages, and snacks REGISTER HERE Reply requested by Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Venue: Wells Fargo Advisors (Wachovia Securities), between 52nd & 53rd Streets.
