Each Broad Master’s cohort brings together approximately 30 mid-career leaders from large, urban school systems across the country. You will build meaningful relationships with your peers during the five Residence Weeks and throughout the program - sharing experiences and reflections, and working together on the tough, persistent challenges facing public education.
Diversity of background and perspective is central to The Broad Center, and your cohort will represent a wide range of lived experiences, functional strengths, geographies, roles, and school systems.
Your Residence Week Schedule at a Glance
You will spend five full Residence Weeks on Yale SOM’s campus, an energizing blend of focused learning and time with your cohort. Each week begins on Sunday evening with an optional welcome dinner, officially kicks off Monday morning with the program opening and the start of coursework, and closes with a final reflection circle to help you integrate what you have learned and plan how you’ll carry it back to work and home.
To make the most of in-person time, you will complete pre-readings and assignments in advance, so everyone arrives with a shared foundation. You should plan for about 20–35 hours of preparation before each Residence Week. After each week on campus, you’ll continue building skills through assignments, both on your own and with classmates, so you can practice applying key frameworks and course insights in real-world settings.

The Academic Calendar
You’ll travel to Yale SOM’s campus in New Haven for five weeklong Residence Weeks over the program’s 14 months. Between Residence Weeks, you’ll participate in monthly virtual sessions and complete independent work that connects and extends your on-campus learning.
Because this is a working-professional program, you’re expected to continue meeting the responsibilities of your role while also keeping up with program requirements.

Your Campus and Accommodations
Getting to Campus & Accommodations
Yale SOM is located in New Haven, Connecticut, which is convenient to both Boston and New York, with easy access from Philadelphia and Washington, DC. Amtrak Acela and Metro-North trains serve New Haven Union Station, and if you’re flying, Bradley International Airport is about an hour north of campus. Yale SOM is at 165 Whitney Avenue, at the northeast corner of Yale University’s campus.
During each of the five Residence Weeks, you’ll stay at the program-designated hotel.
Your Classroom
As a student at Yale SOM, you’ll learn in a space designed to support a highly engaging, cohort-based experience. The 242,000-square-foot Edward P. Evans Hall, designed by Foster + Partners, chaired by Lord Norman Foster ARCH ’62, is the home of the Yale School of Management. Classrooms are built to spark discussion, and dedicated breakout rooms make it easy to work closely with your team.
