The Yale Program on Stakeholder Innovation and Management (Y-SIM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jane Jie Sun, chief executive officer of Trip.com Group, to its Advisory Board. This appointment further expands Sun's already substantial involvement with Yale, where she currently serves on the Board of Advisors for Yale School of Management and as a member of the Yale Center Beijing Advisory Committee.

Y-SIM’s mission is to develop new thinking that helps leaders become experts in creating long-term value for the stakeholders who matter to the success of their organizations by supporting academic research and developing robust curricula for students, executives, and entrepreneurs.

Kerwin K. Charles, the Indra K. Nooyi Dean and Frederic D. Wolfe Professor of Economics, Policy, and Management, noted “I am extremely grateful to Jane for the countless ways she advances Yale SOM’s distinct mission and for taking on this new role with Y-SIM’s Advisory Board. Her insights and expertise will be invaluable to this program, as they have been for faculty, students, and staff through her deep engagement in the classroom and her advisory roles.”

“I believe this program serves as a guiding light for the next generation of leaders, emphasizing that sustained business success relies on robust stakeholder relationships,” says Sun. “It's a privilege to be part of this mission, which aligns with my belief in the transformative power of stakeholder engagement and innovation in shaping a strong and interconnected future for business.”

Trip.com Group is one of the world’s leading online travel service providers. Since Sun joined Trip.com Group as chief financial officer in 2005, its market capitalization has grown more than 20-fold (more than $26 billion as of January 2024). Sun has been at the forefront of that growth and has been honored in recent years by Forbes and Fortune as a global leader in business. Among other innovative approaches are her efforts to recruit and retain women, including generous benefits such as financial gifts to support new mothers including a donation toward their child’s education fund, summer camps for employees’ children, and free taxi rides for pregnant women. The company also recently launched an AI travel assistant—TripGenie—that allows for a more personalized travel experience and has incorporated sustainable travel options into its platform.

John Seifert, Y-SIM Board Chair, said of Ms. Sun, "Few leaders are born with the management DNA to lead with a stakeholder mindset in everything they do. Jane Sun is one of those leaders. Her career exemplifies continuous stakeholder innovation for her people, customers, and partners. The growth story of Trip.com is extraordinary. But how the growth was achieved is what every leader should learn from, no matter their success.”

In November 2023, Sun spoke to students in a new elective course Stakeholders, Management, and Capitalism taught by Professor of Economics and Y-SIM Co-Faculty lead Edward A. Snyder and Jon Iwata, Executive Fellow at Yale SOM and Y-SIM Practice Leader.

“Jane Sun is extraordinary – in her leadership of Trip.com, in her commitment to higher education, and her contributions to Yale SOM. As a leader of a major high-tech platform, she is steeped in the issues that are at the core of Y-SIM’s work. Jane will be a great addition to an already strong group of advisors,” said Snyder.

Y-SIM’s Advisory Board members are: Chair John Seifert, former chief executive officer of the Ogilvy Group; Jim Breyer, founder and CEO of Breyer Capital; Kenneth I. Chenault, former chair and CEO of American Express and chair and managing director of venture capital firm General Catalyst; Louis V.
