MBA Education

Y-SIM supports Yale SOM’s mission to educate leaders for business and society

We equip MBA students with the knowledge and skills to create and sustain value for both shareholders and stakeholders—employees, customers, civil society, governments, and the planet—essential to a company’s long-term success. The program emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of stakeholder innovation and management, drawing from fields such as Organizational Behavior, Innovation, Economics, Finance, Leadership, and Marketing

Coursework

MBA students at Yale SOM tackle the critical challenges of modern leadership, gaining insights into how organizations navigate the complexities of stakeholder dynamics. In their first year, they explore the evolving role of CEOs and the challenges of leading organizations at the intersection of diverse stakeholder interests through the core course, The Executive. Taught by Ravi Dhar, Y-SIM  Faculty Leader, and Jon Iwata, Y-SIM Practice Leader, alongside interdisciplinary faculty from Yale SOM, this course introduces students to the complexities of stakeholder-driven leadership.

Second-year students deepen their understanding through the elective course, Stakeholders, Management, and Capitalism, which expands on the concepts introduced in The Executive. This course, led by Jon Iwata, with curriculum design and teaching supported by Edward A. Snyder, Y-SIM Faculty Leader, challenges students to evaluate senior leadership strategies for managing stakeholder relationships and driving long-term value creation.

Research Associate Positions

Yale SOM students can apply for Research Associate roles within Y-SIM, where they collaborate on pioneering research that examines how businesses manage and engage with various stakeholders. As a Research Associate, you will explore the opportunities and challenges companies face in adopting a multi-stakeholder approach to corporate strategy, addressing critical questions such as how CEOs prioritize stakeholder issues, integrate purpose and values, and innovate to create value for stakeholders. This role provides hands-on experience in developing case studies and frameworks that integrate stakeholder innovation into business practices. Research Associates work closely with faculty and industry leaders, contributing to the program's mission of advancing stakeholder research, education, and practice to benefit both business and society.

Ambassador Program

The newly established Y-SIM Ambassador Program allows students to act as liaisons between the program and the broader Yale SOM community. Ambassadors play a crucial role in promoting Y-SIM's initiatives, organizing events, and facilitating discussions on stakeholder innovation and management. This program enhances students' leadership skills and expands their professional networks, providing a platform to engage with peers, faculty, and industry professionals committed to stakeholder value creation.
