Application Now Live for Master’s in Public Education Management Program
The Broad Center at Yale SOM will welcome an inaugural cohort of approximately 30 emerging public education leaders to its 14-month, tuition-free master’s in public education management in the summer of 2022.
The Broad Center (TBC) at the Yale School of Management has launched the online application for its 14-month Master’s in Public Education Management program. Leading to a master of management studies degree, the program will prepare early to mid-career leaders to amplify their impact in urban K-12 school systems.
TBC at Yale SOM will welcome an inaugural cohort of approximately 30 emerging leaders from school systems in June 2022. A landmark $100 million gift in 2019 from The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation ensures that The Broad master’s is tuition-free.
The master’s program will consist of five residence weeks, online sessions, a colloquia series, and a culminating capstone project, in addition to a curriculum focused on building the functional skills that are necessary to lead complex organizations, including operations, data analysis, accounting, performance measurement, organizational design, capital development, innovation, and technology. Students maintain full-time employment throughout the program, giving them the opportunity to apply the skills and lessons they learn in the classroom to make an immediate impact for the students and families they serve.

Anyone who has worked with school systems’ central offices has seen individuals whose work is not always highly visible, but who make an enormous difference in ensuring that the system is focused on serving students and families. We are excited to support these emerging leaders with ideas, tools, and frameworks to increase their impact in their current roles and in their future leadership trajectories.”
The Broad Center at Yale SOM fosters the ideas, policies, and leadership to help all students—particularly those from underserved communities—to learn and thrive. TBC at Yale SOM is the successor to the previously independent Broad Center in Los Angeles. In addition to the master’s degree in public education management, TBC at Yale SOM also offers the Fellowship for Public Education Leadership, a 10-month leadership development program senior leaders in urban public education.
A key tenet of The Broad Master’s in Public Education Management is a focus on system inequality and an emphasis on leading for equity. Students will leverage Yale’s resources and classroom insights to create innovative solutions to problems faced by school systems that disproportionately serve students of color and historically under-resourced communities.
In a December 2019 statement announcing the establishment of TBC at Yale SOM, Dean Kerwin K. Charles said that the new center perfectly aligned with SOM’s mission and values: “This is exactly the type of issue our school has always cared about—one where leadership informed by systemic thinking, rigorous analysis, and compassion can make a real difference for communities.”
