Jayanti Owens and Shana Young Win Annual Broad Center Teaching Awards
Students in the Master’s in Public Education Management program honored instructors with an especially strong impact on their learning experience.
Jayanti Owens, assistant professor of organizational behavior, and Shana Young, lecturer in the practice of management, are the recipients of this year’s faculty awards for the Master’s in Public Education Management, a program offered by The Broad Center at Yale SOM. Members of the program’s Class of 2025 selected the two faculty members in a vote.
Owens, a faculty affiliate of The Broad Center, teaches the course Inequality, Systems, and Society.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to receive this recognition,” Owens said. “Getting to teach and learn from the incredible school system leaders that come together through The Broad Center has been one of my most rewarding professional experiences. I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to those who have provided mentoring and support behind the scenes and made me look good. It was a community effort.”
Young, a leader in residence at The Broad Center, teaches Education Policy for System Leaders. She also oversees the Capstone Project course.
“It is a great honor to receive this award, and it is truly the students who make it possible,” Young said. “Broad students are driven by the mission to create transformational change in education and society and show up every day ready to engage with curiosity and rigor. This makes teaching these courses a privilege—and fun!”
