The proposition that a company's purpose is to create value for customers, employees, investors, suppliers, communities, and other stakeholders is simple. Putting this commitment into practice, however, is not straightforward. 

An important aspect of Y-SIM’s mission is to prepare leaders for these realities. The program supports rigorous research and real-world practice.

  • Our case studies explore the leader’s role in understanding and creating long-term value for stakeholders.
  • We are exploring the concept of “stakeholder-centered design” as a means of conceptualizing and developing innovative products, services and programs that address the needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • We prototype tools, methods and approaches and refine them in real-world applications.
  • Our convenings bring together leaders from the academy, business and civil society who share our interest in advancing ‘the how’ of understanding and creating value for stakeholders.
How do leaders prioritize, understand, and engage their stakeholders?  How do they determine which issues are material, both to their company and their stakeholders?  How do they take action on stakeholder issues in ways that are differentiating and authentic?  How do they create value for multiple stakeholders without succumbing to the ‘tyranny of trade-offs’?
