Class of 1980 25th Anniversary Class Reunion
On September 23-24, 2005, Yale SOM had the great pleasure of welcoming back the Class of 1980 as they celebrated their milestone 25th Anniversary Class Reunion. The weekend was a smashing success as classmates gathered together to reconnect with one another and to reflect on their time spent at Yale SOM. Bill Donaldson, founding Dean of Yale SOM and former head of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; Dean Joel Podolny; “original” and current faculty members; and many colleagues joined in the festivities.
The Reunion weekend had a wonderful turnout (50% of the class attending!) and was by all accounts a “great all-around experience” thanks to the ongoing efforts of the Reunion Committee – Ned Lamont and Toddy Turrentine (co-chairs), Cindy Albert Link, Mel Blake, Susan Gutchess, Pan Lamsam, Ed Moss, Greg Platts, Matt Riklin, Rosemary Ripley, and John Robinson – and the fun and engaging program they put together for their classmates.
In addition to the Cocktail Reception and Gala Class Dinner on Friday evening, there were many opportunities throughout the Reunion weekend to talk, reminisce, and enjoy each other’s company. The program also included wide-ranging discussions on topics such as Yale’s endowment (led by David Swensen, Yale University’s Chief Investment Officer); the past, current, and future of Yale SOM (with deans Bill Donaldson and Joel Podolny); and American leadership in the world (headed by professor Owen Lamont). Two workshops, reflecting the expressed interests of classmates, were also offered: “College Admissions 101,” led by Chris Murphy, Associate Director of Yale Undergraduate Admissions, and “Reinventing Lives: Career Transitions and New Beginnings,” led by professors Victor Vroom and Heidi Brooks.
In honor of this special milestone, the Class of 1980 has shown outstanding support for Yale SOM and its mission of educating leaders for business and society. Thanks to the efforts and enthusiasm of the Reunion Gifts Committee – Betsy Pace (chair), Suzanne Francis, John Howard, Michael Liss, and Karen Moore – the Class of 1980 has raised over $1.6.million as part of its Reunion Giving Program over the past year. In another measure of their generosity, the class members’ donations to Yale SOM have equaled $2.5 million over the past five years.
