Our Approach

Educating leaders for business and society.

A great academic institution, like the Yale School of Management, is defined by people and ideas. At Yale SOM, you will find a community of inquisitive intellects, always on the hunt for insights and looking past the horizon to better understand the interconnectedness of our world. We are also characterized by the commitment of our students, faculty, alumni, and staff to the mission and ideals of the institution.

Welcome to the Yale School of Management, a community of broad-minded, intellectually curious students, faculty, and alumni, committed to educating leaders for business and society. Our graduates act with integrity and a sense of purpose. They are prepared to thrive in for-profit, nonprofit, government, and entrepreneurial enterprises and to navigate the complexity that exists where sectors, regions, and cultures intersect in an increasingly connected world.

Guiding Principles

Guiding Principles

Our mission is to educate leaders for business and society. And Yale SOM is a place where the mission matters, where students, alumni, faculty, and staff embrace its meaning and implications. It provides both long-term strategic guidance about what the school is and should be and informs decisions and actions on a daily basis.

A Way of Acting

A Way of Acting

Leaders for business and society think broadly about global trends and challenges, bring a sense of purpose to their work every day, and move forward with analytical rigor. We've structured our academic and co-curricular programs to help our students get a head start on the lifelong practice of leadership. We think that the careers of our alumni demonstrate pretty effectively what Yale SOM leadership can accomplish in the world.

A Way of Understanding

A Way of Understanding

In keeping with our sense of mission, we do not accept rote explanations and conventional labels. When we set out to understand a new phenomenon or challenge, we approach it with the broadest sense of curiosity as well as a foundation of rigorous analysis and evaluation. This is the spirit behind our integrated curriculum, which teaches students to approach every leadership challenge within the context of the bigger picture, and our close engagement with Yale University, which ensures that our students benefit from all the knowledge and insight available in a great university.
