Yale SOM Student Team Places First at UNC’s Alpha Challenge
Hosted by the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, the annual competition invites business students to pitch long equity and credit investment ideas.
Ashvin Sivakumar ’26 and William Wright ’26, both Master’s in Asset Management students, and Annabella Yuan ’26, a Master’s in Global Business and Society student, have earned first place in the equity track at UNC’s Alpha Challenge.
The competition asks student teams to present investment recommendations to professionals from asset management firms, hedge funds, and other buy-side investment organizations.
“It was an incredible experience and honor for all of us to participate and win the largest U.S. stock pitch competition in North Carolina,” said Wright. “A lot of hours went into the idea and I’m appreciative for such a great team and a brilliant event from start to finish!”
Last month, Sivakumar and Wright were part of a team that placed first at the NYU Stern Stock Pitch Competition.
The Yale SOM team was assembled by the Investment Management Club, which ran an internal stock competition to select team members and organized training sessions.
“This year has undoubtedly been our strongest competition season so far,” said Leo Li ’26, who leads the club. “The most important driver of these results has been the talent, discipline, and attention to research detail that our teams have brought to every pitch.”
