Learning the Art of Impact Investing with Alexandra Baker-Brown ’24
Part of the founding team of the student-led Meng Impact Investment Fund, Baker-Brown is now an emerging markets investor at the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation.
What was a highlight of your experience on the Meng Team?
Bringing something real to life! It was invigorating to collaborate with the Meng team to determine what the fund’s mission and values would be, and then put these values into action across an operational structure. I wanted to leave SOM with tangible achievements to launch my career in impact investing. I achieved that goal thanks to the dedicated work of my peers on the Meng Fund and the support of school leadership, faculty, and staff.
How did participating in Meng help you reach the role you are in now?
A fellow member of the management team, Monica Charletta ’25, alerted me to the internship that led to my current full-time role. This is the Meng Fund’s magic in action: peers and alumni shared ideas, resources, contacts, and encouragement that helped me learn where my skills and interests fit in the impact investing ecosystem and find a place in the field.
