Alumni 101: Your Post-Grad Guide to the Yale SOM Alumni Community

You’ve worked hard to get here... and now a whole new chapter begins! This guide covers what you need to know to make the most of everything the Yale SOM alumni community has to offer. Bookmark it, share it, and come back to it whenever you need it.

Stay Connected to Your Network

The relationships you built at SOM don’t have to end at graduation. Think about the people you’ve met over the past two years—your classmates, study group partners, the person you sat next to at orientation who ended up becoming one of your closest friends. That network is one of the most valuable things you’re taking with you, and SOM Connect is what keeps it alive. It’s the official alumni platform where you can search for classmates by industry, location, or graduation year, find mentors, and stay discoverable to the thousands of SOM alumni around the world who are rooting for you and ready to help.

Take five minutes to set up your profile now, while it’s top of mind. Your future self will thank you the first time you need an introduction in a new city or industry.

Get Involved

Your expertise is valuable, especially now. Help a current student land their first job, welcome prospective students into the community, organize events for alumni in your city, or lead a group of people who share your industry or identity. There is a role that fits your schedule, your strengths, and where you are in your career right now.

More than 1,500 SOM alumni are already volunteering in some capacity this year—come join them.

Find Your Community Wherever You Are

SOM is big, but it can also feel like home. One of the things that makes SOM unique is how much range exists within a single community—across industries, geographies, backgrounds, and interests. That breadth is a defining feature and alumni groups are how you tap into it.

Want to connect with SOM alumni working in your industry? There’s a group for that. New to your city and looking for a built-in community? There’s a group for that, too.  Our alumni groups and regional chapters exist in cities across the globe, and they are always welcoming new faces.

Career Tools for Every Stage

Graduation is a milestone, not a finish line. Your career is a long game, and you don’t have to navigate new roles, big decisions, or next chapters alone.  Yale SOM alumni have access to career resources that go well beyond graduation, because the challenges of a mid-career pivot or an entrepreneurial leap are just as real as those of your first job search. From one-on-one coaching to curated job postings to industry-specific communities where people share opportunities and advice, the Career Development Office is here for you at every stage.

Invest in SOM’s Future

The mission to educate leaders for business and society is as urgent as it’s ever been. Your generosity is what keeps that momentum going. Whether you want to support a student who is where you were just a few years ago, invest in cutting-edge faculty research, or fund programs and initiatives that are shaping how business and society interact, there is a place for your generosity here.

Don’t Miss What’s Happening

Between alumni accomplishments, campus milestones, events, and faculty research, there’s a lot happening in the SOM world on any given week and social media is the easiest way to stay in the loop. It’s also where you'll catch things that you won’t see anywhere else: the candid moments, the quick wins worth celebrating, the conversations worth joining.

And we want to hear from you too. Just landed a new role? Launched something exciting? Hit a milestone worth celebrating? Tag us and share your news. Your story is part of the SOM story, and we love nothing more than celebrating what our alumni are doing in the world.

Start the Countdown to Reunion

Save the Date for Reunion 2027: Friday, April 30-Sunday, May 2

Reunion is one of the most beloved traditions at SOM. Every spring, Evans Hall fills with alumni, family, and friends for a few days of celebration, reflection, and reconnection. It’s a chance to appreciate how much has changed, and how much hasn’t. Reunions are typically held in five-year increments, and if you ask anyone who’s been, the planning and anticipation are half the fun.

You’re Already In

Some alumni benefits kick in automatically, no sign-up required. Before you’ve updated your profile or attended a single event, there are perks that are already yours just by virtue of graduating. Consider these a gift from SOM and Yale to get you started. Each month, you’ll receive a curated roundup of SOM news, alumni spotlights, faculty research, and upcoming events delivered straight to your inbox. You also have access to a variety of lifetime benefits and opportunities including career coaching, loan forgiveness, lifelong learning, and more.

Plus, as a Yale SOM graduate, you’re not just part of the SOM alumni community—you’re part of the broader Yale alumni community too. That means access to Yale Alumni Association (YAA) programming, events, and resources that span the entire university and you get to keep a Yale-branded email address for life.
