A quick start to the new year

There's a lot happening in the opening days of 2011:

  • - Current students are wrapping up vacations and trips home to every corner of the world before classes resume next week.
    - Prospective SOM students are putting the finishing touches on their admissions applications for the second round deadline this week.
    - First year students interested in investment banking and consulting are back on campus for interviews during SuperWeek.
    - And along with roughly two dozen classmates, I'm visiting companies in the San Francisco area this week on a "job trek" similar to the one to London that Jessica  described.

The student-organized trip to San Francisco and Silicon Valley includes visits to a handful of companies in the high tech, green tech, venture capital, and non-profit sectors. As with the trip to London in November (and treks to Portland and Seattle took place over the winter break), students with similar geographic interests can pool resources in the job search and visit potential employers together. We'll get the chance to hear about internship and full time employment opportunities at these firms, meet with company leadership -- often SOM grads, and discuss the latest trends in each of these industries. In addition, some of us will also be on hand for an admissions event Monday, January 3rd to chat with prospective students and those admitted in the first round. If you're in the area, RSVP and join us downtown! There are also casual admissions events happening in New York and Philadelphia this week. Wherever you are and whatever you're up to this week, Happy 2011!
