Position Focus: 

The Project Editor will partner with global thought leaders in industry and academia to develop meaningful narratives that can be used to shape managerial thinking in an exciting and emerging area—stakeholder capitalism. The Project Editor will work with the Director of Case Research as well as Yale School of Management faculty and leaders from industry to create new case studies for MBA courses at Yale and potentially other graduate schools. The case studies are generally presented as either long-form narratives or multi-media web sites. The Project Editor will write narratives, format, and otherwise produce the supporting materials in the case study.

Essential Duties: 

  1. Collect and organize information from the literature relevant to the identified management dilemma.
  2. Manage contacts with organizations and individuals including the terms of an engagement and release of material.
  3. Arrange and conduct interviews with executives (some on-camera) to gain additional information about the dilemma.
  4. Work with faculty and the Director of Case Research to clarify the dilemma and sharpen the pedagogical value of the material.
  5. Write case study narrative translating business and economic information into coherent prose.
  6. Review drafts with informants, faculty, and Director of Case Research and incorporates revisions into text.
  7. Prepare supporting materials for the case study into comprehensible tables and charts.
  8. Format the written material into PDFs according to department standards.
  9. Write all necessary narrative elements.
  10. Identify accessible and relevant online materials for links.
  11. Collect graphical material like photos and maps.
  12. Create slideshows, graphs, and other materials.
  13. Work with multi-media producer to create video clips.
  14. Format all web pages on a site, arranging text, links, videos, photographs, and other materials.
  15. Test websites and insures a smoothly functioning finished product.
  16. May perform other duties as assigned, including working with students or faculty to edit and/or complete pedagogical materials they initiated.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and three years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills & Abilities: 

  1. Solid analytical background and a demonstrated ability to write quickly and clearly (candidates are asked to provide writing samples).
  2. Familiarity with computer software related to creating presentations, including the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word).
  3. Some travel may be required.
  4. Superior interpersonal skills.
  5. A team player that works well with other members of the staff.
  6. A leader with a positive and can-do attitude that supports the mission of the school.
  7. Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  8. Ability to represent the school well in working collegially with peers and colleagues within and outside the university. Commitment  to an inclusive workplace.

Preferred:

Background in business or business writing. Global orientation, experience working across countries and regions and fluency in more than one language.  Interest in the topic of stakeholder capitalism.
