Tell us about your International Experience trip. Where did you go? What was your favorite experience?

As part of Yale SOM's International Experience course offering, I had the opportunity to visit Madrid, Spain, and London with 30 other classmates from the MBA program. The focus of the trip was Entrepreneurship through acquisition and it gave us the opportunity to see what the journey from searching for a company to finally acquiring and growing it looks like. Our schedule was designed in such a way that we spend an equal amount of time in all these cities, meeting searchers, investors, and CEOs of different companies. These conversations helped us understand how to purchase a business, finance an acquisition, and operate and grow a business. Interacting with CEOs showed us what it is like being a young, first-time CEO and what types of challenges and issues exist on the journey. My favorite experiences were: 1) Discussions with Simon Webster, who is a guest lecturer at LBS and an entrepreneur who raised the first search fund in the UK. The discussion helped us understand what investors seek in entrepreneurs and what value investors add to entrepreneurs. 2) Company visit to Logiscenter in Madrid: the CEOs showed us how they optimized their operations to grow their revenues. 3) The memorable experience of visiting Sagrada Familia. The basilica is a testament to the genius of Antoni Gaudí and his vision for a unique and awe-inspiring place of worship.
